The Nigerien cuisine is part of the traditional cooking from the Sahel. Niebe, a sort of bean, is quite big in the different recipes. Locals sometimes joke about Niebe, saying that it gives you gas. This is sort of a standard joke and should by no means keep you from eating Niebe plates. They can be quite delicious.
